The vegetable garden is at full capacity

We would like to change the topic. After two weeks talking about purple garlic, we think it will be a good idea to talk about homely farming. Our vegetable garden is giving us some fantastic vegetables. We have said it is a homely farming because all vegetables are to be consumed by our whole family. As you can see in our pictures, tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, peppers,... are of the highest quality. In our village (and in our area in general), it is very common farmers have a small vegetable garden in summer to own consumption. It generates a lot of familiar work because all tasks are carried out manually, but it is very gratifying.

Thank our earthenware jar, which was installed last year and it is used to water our vegetable garden through a drip system (also, we use it to fill our sprayer in the appropriate season), our orchard has a great color. We hope to be harvesting tomatoes during the next two weeks as well.

Purple garlic: the end for farmer

During these days, we are carring out the last garlic task for this campaign: we delivery the garlic to the cooperative where it will be sorted, cleaned and sold. This task is easy because we don't have to do anything, only we have to carry them. Employees of the cooperative do the rest.

Purple garlic are put into two hoppers of the classifier machine. This machinery classify about 900 bins per day (it works 16 hours/day). At the same time, some workers look at garlic with problems called "destrio" (they are garlics that are broken, with any problem about cutting, with any disease,...). The weight of this kind of garlic is deducted from the farmer's total amount because they have different sale even some will not be able to be sold.

Purple garlic is classified into five categories according to its diameter:

Category
Diameter (mm)
Segunda
30-37
Primera
37-45
Flor
45-50
Superflor
50-55
Extraflor
>55

When the palot is removed from the classifier machine, a traceability sticker is fixed on it. This traceability sticker has a bar-code which specifies the partner number's garlic, field where garlic was sowed, garlic kind, size, entry date,...

Finally, we have to prepare our seeds for the next campaign, which is going to be soon in December... until then, we can rest on this crop that generates a lot of work.
