FIMA 2016. Erme

Another company we consider really interesting to visit is the French branch Erme. As you know, we are farmers specialized in garlic cultivation and Erme, without any doubt, owns the best machinery for it, since it was a pioneering company in manufacturing this kind of machines and, nowadays, it continues to offer great quality and innovating machines.

Their stand was really small, and we only could see the ​garlic harvester binder of only one row. Also, we could see some novelties like can be a video about the expected cutting machine. Doubtlessly, it will be an authentic revolution in this field, because it is the only task that currently still continues being done manually.

It is sure that this year we will publish post dedicated to this machine. Furthermore, they exposed some parts of their famous pneumatic planter (we talked about it in this post). We should highlight that this machine is giving them magnificent results.

Finally, they launched their new website, which has been updated and it is sure it will be a meeting point for many farmers ... we liked it so much.

​The biggest pneumatic​s​ planter!!

We have spoken about garlic sowing jobs and even we have spoken about machinery used but this ocassion is special because they are working with a ​pneumatics​ ​planter of French brand called Erme.​ This company is  innovating in the garlic machinery sector ​

Pictures are sent by our follower Patricia ​​who ​​visited a garlic farm in Albacete in the last September... it is the age of spring garlic sowing

The ​pneumatics​ ​planter you can see in our pictures is a planter of 8 rows... we have never seen any bigger planter working. The most planter used are of 4 rows and lately farmers are using planter of 6 rows... they are fashion in our area. This planter needs a tractor of 120HP... we think it is a importan limitation for farmers because tractor used traditionally are about 100HP. The optimum working speed is at 2.5 km/h but it depends on the plant density. We plant 12 garlic per meter normally. The distant between row is at 45cm but it can change and even it can be smaller.

This Erme planter (PLPD) is a planter of double row and it has a hopper of 1,200 liters... it allows them to sow about 6ha/day. Erme can manufacture these planters with bigger hopper but you need powerful tractor.​ This machine has a computer what controls all ​its ​parameters​.

Seeing other garlic pneumatic planters (of other brands) their most important problem is the high level noise. In this case, Erme has achieved to reduce its level noise to 98dB, thanks to really hard job… Pretty great work!!

​Harvesting garlic days came up in Andalusia

Once Demoagro Farm Fair 2015 has been explained we should return to posts about farming tasks in this season... it is our main editorial line. The harvesting spring garlic days began in Andalusia few weeks ago. In general, spring garlic and purple garlic are also being harvested in Spain (Las Pedroñeras, Chinchón, Valladolid,...). One more time, we are speaking about our favorite crop: garlic.

Harvesting season for spring garlic began near Sevilla and Córdoba (both of them are very important areas together with our area to grow garlic). The Proaco company has set up their ERME harvester machines. As you can see in our pictures, they were using some four rows harvester cutter... their performance are fantastic so they allow employees to work a lot of hectares per day. There is a problem: they need to use a really good transport system to move a large amount of big bags and they have to dry ​this garlic quickly to avoid any problems that can be generated because of tender garlic.

On this occasion, the Erme machinery is quite old (they are from the 90's... they have evolved a lot about the current), but they continue working very hard and without problems... ERME manufactures pretty garlic machinery!! These garlic harvester cutters highlight because they use rubber conveyor belt, electrohydraulic system to operate it by one person and a system to fill some types of big bags or palots. We have an Erme garlic harvester too but our Erme machine is a two rows binder harvester so bulbs are lifted and tied creating small bunches. Harvester cutters aren't yet use very frequently in our area. Farmers of our area like to harvest garlic with its stem and about 15 days after that they cut stems and roots manually... our handling and sales processes are different.
