Sales of new agricultural machinery during 2025, in Spain

A quick glance at the figures shows that 2025 was a fantastic year for new machinery sales in Spain. Sales of virtually all types of machinery are on the rise. With 2025 now upon us, we have seen two years of significant increases since that disastrous year of 2023 in terms of sales and harvest. We can therefore attribute this rise in sales, at first glance, to two years of generally excellent harvests across the country and to the substantial subsidies that the government (both national and regional) often provides for the modernisation of machinery.

If we focus on tractor sales, these are on the rise again and have even surpassed the sales figures for 2019, which we had taken as our benchmark. It is important to note that the data used comes from the ROMA database, which includes ATVs, telescopic handlers, etc. If we exclude these types of vehicles, the actual number of tractors sold would be around 11,000 units… a figure we hadn't reached for many years.

As regards tractor sales, the key points are:

  • John Deere continues to lead the market and, together with New Holland, accounts for 32% of sales.
  • Fendt continues to increase its sales, as it has done year after year, reaching almost 1,000 units.
  • Deutz-Fahr and Case IH continue to hold their positions in 4th and 5th place, respectively.
  • Valtra ranks second in the high-horsepower segment.
  • Massey Ferguson has seen a significant jump in sales, reaching 595 tractors sold.

As for the best-selling tractor models, the ranking is as follows:

  1.     John Deere 6M165: 288 units
  2.     John Deere 6M125: 288 units
  3.     John Deere 6R250: 283 units
  4.     New Holland T5.120: 172 units
  5.     John Deere 6R185: 158 units
  6.     John Deere 5105M: 157 units

As for new machinery sales, the figures for 2025 are significantly higher than those for the previous year, with a total of 42,187 units sold.We would like to highlight the following points:

  • Trailers: 3,876 units (vs. 3,159 in 2024).
  • Soil preparation equipment: 4,150 units (vs. 2,724 in 2024).
  • Sowing equipment: 1,349 units (vs. 1,343 in 2024).
  • Pesticide application equipment: 7,360 units (vs. 6,157 in 2024).
  • Fertilisation and irrigation equipment: 2,247 units (vs. 1,873 in 2024).
  • Harvesting equipment: 3,537 units (vs. 2,182 in 2024).

Sales of grain harvesters have risen significantly once again, reaching 233 units, compared with 177 in 2024. Claas retains its top position and strengthens its leadership in this segment. This market is dominated by Claas, New Holland and John Deere, although this year Deutz-Fahr and Fendt have managed to make some significant sales (17 units in total).

Finally, sales of new self-propelled grape harvesters have risen significantly this year, reaching 112 units compared with 103 units in 2024. New Holland remains by far the best-selling brand.

Sales of new agricultural machinery during 2024, in Spain

A fitting headline to describe new agricultural machinery sales in Spain in 2024 is ‘2024 was a good year’. As we will see below, sales have increased compared to 2023... although this was fairly easy to predict, given that 2023 was a catastrophic year for the sector in general.

Focusing on tractor sales, figures have returned to levels similar to those before 2023. This year, 10,452 units were sold, representing a 20% increase from last year. It is important to note that we are using data from ROMA, which includes ATVs, telehandlers, etc. If we exclude all vehicles of these types, the actual number of tractors sold would be around 8,740 units, 1,000 more than in 2023.

Regarding  tractor sales are concerned, the following should be highlighted:

  • John Deere remains the market leader, and together with New Holland, they account for 33% of total sales.
  • Deutz-Fahr and Case IH consolidate their positions in 4th and 5th place, respectively.
  • Fendt continues to grow in unit sales, reaching 829 tractors sold this year.
  • Landini and McCormick have seen a significant decline in sales, possibly being the only brands to register a decrease compared to 2023.
  • Fendt and Claas continue to dominate high horsepower tractors.

In terms of new machinery sold, 2024 sales figures are very similar to those of 2023. The total number of new machineris sold is higher this year, but this increase is primarily due to tractors and trailers. The sales trend for other types of machinery remains stable or even declining compared to 2023. On this occasion, a total of 31,678 new machines were sold, compared to 30,953 in 2023.

Key figures include:

  • New trailer sales: 3,159 units (vs. 2,885 in 2023).
  • Soil tillage machinery: 2,724 units (vs. 3,530 in 2023).
  • Seed drills: 1,343 units (vs. 1,353 in 2023).
  • Crop protection machinery: 6,157 units (vs. 6,057 in 2023).
  • Spreaders and fertilization machinery: 1,873 units (vs. 1,825 in 2023).
  • Harvesters: 2,182 units (vs. 2,239 in 2023).

Sales of combine harvesters have dropped significantly, with 177 units sold compared to 217 in 2023. Claas remains in first place and consolidates its leadership in this segment. This market is dominated by Claas, New Holland, and John Deere, which together account for 86% of total sales. However, this year, Fendt (10 units), Deutz-Fahr (9 units), and Case IH (4 units) have achieved a notable market share.

Finally, sales of new self-propelled grape harvesters have seen a significant increase, reaching 103 units (compared to 93 in 2023). New Holland once again leads this segment, capturing 68% of the market. The sales volume for this type of machinery remains stable at around 100 units, which reflects a strong outlook for vineyards, almond, and olive groves.

Sales of new agricultural machinery during 2023, in Spain

As is the tradition every year, we show the data of the sales of new machinery in Spain during 2023, these data are extracted from the information published by the Ministry of Agriculture (the information is published monthly, you can see this information from here). It is a summary of the most interesting data in our opinion. Overall, the figures are generally worse than in 2022, which they were caused mainly by last year's severe drought. In any case, the lower figure is in line with the general trend of the average of recent years.

The number of new tractors sold has decreased to 8,688 (10,318 units in 2022). A figure that is in line with the 10,000 new tractors sold annually which has been the benchmark figure for more than 10 years. As we have already mentioned, we would even say that this figure is good after the catastrophic year we have had in general in Spain with the drought, low product prices and high input costs.

New tractor sales by brand continue to be led by John Deere (1,910 units in 2023, 2,141 units in 2022 and 2,351 units in 2021) and New Holland (1,159 units in 2023, 1,522 units in 2022 and 1,736 units in 2021). The news is that this year John Deere is again the leader in sales by commercial group. Fendt remains, for yet another year, in third place with 628 units sold (a figure that catches our attention since these are high-end tractors that are becoming more and more common in the poor Spanish countryside). Below you can see sales by brand on the chart:

On the other hand, another interesting fact is the best-selling brand in terms of average power where Fendt continues to lead the market for another year with 202 HP/tractor (187 HP/tractor in 2021 and 187 HP/tractor in 2021). More information can be found in the following tables (data source Más que máquinas agrícolas blog):

Some more interesting facts about the sale of new tractors:

  • The Ministry has estimated the average sales price of a new tractor at € 83,346 ( €77,698  in 2022 and €61,456 in 2021).
  • The average horse price continues to rise and is already at 668 €/HP ( 646 €/HP  in 2022 and 592 €/ HP in 2021).
  • The average power of a new tractor sold in Spain is around 125 HP (120HP in 2022 and 119 HP in 2021). The average power of the total Spanish fleet is 70 HP.

To finish with the tractors, we show you the most sold models in Spain (data source Más que máquinas agrícolas blog):

  1. John Deere 6120M: 209 units.
  2. John Deere 6155M: 207 units.
  3. John Deere 6R250: 197 units.
  4. New Holland T5.120: 172 units.
  5. John Deere 6R185: 153 units.
  6. John Deere 5100M: 146 units.

As for sales of new agricultural machinery in 2023, we would like to show a chart where you can see monthly sales. You have data about tractors, trailers, tillage machinery, seed drills, mowers or harvesting machinery, etc. We would like to mention that a total amount of 30,953 new machines were sold in 2023 (31,870 units in 2022 and 35,633 units in 2021), which indicates the downward trend. Many of these machines have been sold thanks to state subsidies in terms of Agriculture 4.0, Renovation plan, etc. Without these subsidies we would surely be talking about a much lower figure.

We highlight the following data on new sales of agricultural machinery:

  • Sales of new trailers: 2,885 units,  2,951 units in 2022 and 3,818 units in 2021.
  • Regarding trailed or mounted machinery:
    • Soil tillage machinery: 3,530 units, 2,926 units in 2022 and 3,122 units in 2021.
    • Seed drills machinery: 1,353 units, 1,002 units in 2022 and 1,011units in 2021.
    • Crop protection machinery: 6,057 units, 6,938 units in 2022 and 7,650 units in 2021.
    • Spreaders and fertilization machinery: 1,825 units, 1,976 units in 2022 and 2,596 units in 2021.
    • Harvesters machinery: 2,239 units, 1,819 units in 2022 and 2,062 units in 2021.

Apart from that, we have to give special mention to the new combine harvesters sold in Spain which in 2023 was 217 units compared to 2022 with 191 units and 279 units in 2021. This year, Claas regains the first place, doubling the second place in sales. This sector is completely monopolised by Claas, New Holland and John Deere with 92% of the market.

We want to give a special mention to the sales of self-propelled grape harvesters, which this year are lower than in the previous year with 93 new units sold (137 units in 2022 and 135 units in 2021). New Holland leads the market again, even more strongly for another year with 72% of sales. We can conclude that the market has been stable for several years with around 100 new units sold. We think that this is a good amount, so we think the wine and olive sectors are sectors with great potential.

Finally, we show you a few pictures of our friend Nemesio, who with the purchase of his Fendt 314 Profi+ contributed to increasing annual sales of new tractors in 2023. Other graphs on new tractor sales as well.

Sales of new agricultural machinery during 2022, in Spain

As is the tradition every year, we show the data of the sales of new machinery in Spain during 2022, these data are extracted from the information published by the Ministry of Agriculture (the information is published monthly, you can see this information from here). It is a summary of the most interesting data in our opinion. Overall, the figures are generally worse than in 2021, which we consider to be in line with the general trend of the average of the last few years.

The number of new tractors sold has decreased to 10,318 (11,672 units in 2021). A figure that is in line with the 10,000 new tractors sold annually which has been the benchmark figure for more than 10 years. Therefore, the sale of new tractors is on a steady path.

New tractor sales by brand continue to be led by John Deere (2,141 units in 2022, 2,351 units in 2021 and 2,429 units in 2020) and New Holland (1,522 units in 2022, 1,736 units in 2021 and 1,403 units in 2020). The news is that this year John Deere is again the leader in sales by commercial group. We would like to highlight the rise of Fendt, which is in third place with 699 units sold. Below you can see sales by brand on the chart:

On the other hand, another interesting fact is the best-selling brand in terms of average power where Fendt continues to lead the market for another year with 187 hp/tractor (187 hp/tractor in 2020 and 188 hp/tractor in 2020). More information can be found in the following tables (data source Más que máquinas agrícolas blog):

Some more interesting facts about the sale of new tractors:

  • The Ministry has estimated the average sales price of a new tractor at €77,698 (€61,456 in 2021 and €58,830 in 2020):
  • The average horse price continues to rise and is already at 646 €/HP (592 €/ HP in 2021 and 505 €/ HP in 2020).
  • The average power of a new tractor sold in Spain is around 120  HP   (119 HP in 2021 and 117 HP in 2020). The average power of the total Spanish fleet is 70 HP.

As for sales of new agricultural machinery in 2022, we would like to show a chart where you can see monthly sales. You have data about tractors, trailers, tillage machinery, seed drills, mowers or harvesting machinery, etc. We would like to mention that a total amount of 31,870 new machines were sold in 2022 (35,633 units in 2021 and 32,204 units in 2020). This is a significant drop compared to previous years.

We highlight the following data on new sales of agricultural machinery:

  • Sales of new trailers:  2,951 units, 3,818 units in 2021 and 3,834 units in 2020.
  • Regarding trailed or mounted machinery:
    • Soil tillage machinery: 2,926 units, 3,122 units in 2021and 2,914 units in 2020.
    • Seed drills machinery: 1,002 units, 1,011units in 2021 and 932 units in 2020.
    • Crop protection machinery: 6,938 units, 7,650 units in 2021 and 6,234 units in 2020.
    • Spreaders and fertilization machinery: 1,976 units, 2,596 units in 2021 and 2,254 units in 2020.
    • Harvesters machinery: 1,819 units, 2,062 units in 2021 and 2,174 units in 2020.

Apart from that, we have to give special mention to the new combine harvesters sold in Spain which in 2022 was 191 units compared to 2021 in 2021and 279 units in 2021. This represents a very significant drop. This year the first place goes to New Holland with 68 units (102 units in 2021). This has never happened before because Claas has been the leader year after year. This sector is completely monopolised by New Holland (68 units), Claas (54 units) and John Deere (49 units). The other manufacturers' sales are practically symbolic (around 13% of sales).

We want to give a special mention to the sales of self-propelled grape harvesters, which this year have increased compared to previous years with 137 new units sold (135 units in 2021 and 111 units in 2020). New Holland leads the market again, even more strongly for another year with 71% of sales. We can conclude that the market has been stable for several years with around 100 new units sold. We think that this is a good amount, so we think the wine and olive sectors are sectors with great potential.
