Purple garlic: manual tasks and packaging

Purple garlic is on the last stage of the year. After taking care of our garlic, from December when the garlic were sown, we have to cut the roots and the stalks, and later they are stored in bins (to be delivered in the cooperative where the garlic will be prepared, processed and sold throughout the year). As you can see on the pictures, this task is completely manual, so it needs a large number of people if you want to not stretch much over time.

In our case, during hard five days we were working with 40 employees, most of them are Romanians (in the last years all manual garlic tasks have been performed by them and, the truth is that, they work really well). The cutting process is very easy: each worker uses a pair of special scissors (with a spring) and two small plastic or wood boxes. One box is needed for the damaged garlic (they can be damaged by an illness or because mechanical problems). We pay the job for bins fulfilled with garlic at the end of the day, then, they empty their boxes to fill the palots.

At the end, the most rewarding moment is when the truck leaves the field with the bins loaded of garlic… the work is already carried out and we can relax until the next season.

    Hi friends!!

I have one doubt about the quantity of garlic stored. How much kilos of garlic are there in a bin/palot? And in a small box?

Thank you for your posts and your response.

  2. Trust me packaging of garlic would going to be very important. Packaging of any product decides its value. You can not sell products without packaging and if you can then you will not get good value.
