Sunflowers II: The sowing

After the soil was prepared by us as we said in a previous post and weather forecast indicated it won't rain in the following days after sowing, sowing sunflowers in April or May is the best option. In our area, some farmers are sowing sunflowers yet (because of: the rain didn’t allow them to do it, they have large fields or they sow a variety which is short cycle) although the sowing campaign is being finishing.

We used a seed drill of JJ Broch company. It is a Paris-4 (mechanics monograin of four rows). In our vicinity, farmers only use this type of monograin seed drills for sunflowers and its results are extraordinary... the tractor can work with low level of r.p.m. and the effort done is minimum. Sunflowers are very important in our region, in fact, Cuenca is one of the most significant producers of sunflowers in Spain. Regarding seed used, we continue to sow Almanzor of Cecosa company this year. This seed is very expensive, but we have obtained fantastic results with it... it has a problem which takes long time to dry because it is a too long cycle variety, so we had to sow them in April.

This task is delicate since we try to do rows absolutely straight... we hope to have an autoguidance system for next year which do us easy this job :) At least, we have markers in the center of tractor, which are more comfortable and accurate than we used marker in the wheels.

    Congratulations!!
The rows are really straight, do you think the work will improve with the auto-guidance system??

In my opinion, sunflowers are plants very interesting because of their short cycle, their colors and the way they look for the sun.

    ¡¡Enhorabuena!!
Los surcos están realmente rectos, ¿es posible mejorar con el sistema de guíado automático? es complicado.

En mi opinión, los girasoles son plantas muy interesantes, por su corto ciclo, sus colores y la forma en la que buscan el sol.

    Saludos,

    1. We think we cann't improve our work if we use an auto-guidante system but it will be more comfortable :)

      Thanks for your comment again!!

      Best regards
